A Deep Dive Into Our Commendable Designation

Moving Everest (ME) has received a Commendable Designation on our Illinois Report Card for this school year.

A Commendable Designation ultimately means that we have reached Illinois’ academic performance targets for this academic school year. More specifically, we have zero underperforming student groups and have a graduation rate higher than 67%.

The Illinois State Board of Education report card shares a complete analysis of student and school performance. ME was evaluated on ELA Proficiency and Growth, Math Proficiency and Growth, Science Proficiency and Chronic Absenteeism. We did not receive a score on the Climate Survey of our school.

Our ELA, Math and Science Proficiency scores are the percentages of students at ME that meet the proficiency criteria for Illinois’ academic assessments. Our indicator score based on raw performance for ELA Proficiency is 50.84%, Math Proficiency is 26.74% and Science Proficiency is 40.31%. Essentially, ME has above average proficiency scores across the board.

Our ELA and Math Growth scores are based on how a given ME student’s scores have grown compared to their academic peers with the same scores from previous years. This growth is calculated through using the score for the current year and up to two prior years’ scores. Our indicator score based on raw performance for ELA Growth is 66.7% and Math Growth is 48.8%. Here we are seeing that a good chunk of our students are scoring higher than peers with similar scores.

ME scored a 23.59% for Chronic Absenteeism. Chronic Absenteeism means that a student is absent for more than 10% of the current school year. Score percentages on the lower end are better since more students are present than not.

Our Overall Index Score is 44.05%, allowing us to fall in the Commendable Designation category. We are very pleased with our current designation, but are always striving to improve. We find importance in taking the Illinois Report Card Data into account when planning out our educational strategies for the upcoming school years.

All in all we are very appreciative of our community of young scholars, staff and parents. Without this community we would not have been able to reach Commendable Designation status. We are looking forward to continuing Moving Everest!
